About journeys that root.

Titel image - Journeys that Root

Time has been running through my fingers like sand lately. Ever since Mike and I started our new jobs, there never seams to be enough time! I guess time flies when you are having fun, right!?

This morning I took Mike to the airport for his first ever business trip. I am kinda really jealous, ’cause he is heading to California without me ūüôĀ boohoo! I do hope to be able to go there soon myself some time soon. This east coast girl would love to go west!

Except for working – life has been spent in the garden picking fruit, making jam and pies, and harvesting fresh veggies and herbs from the garden. Never would I have thought that this would bring me so much peace and pleasure. Ever since living in Kentucky, I have connected more and more with the earth – and am loving it! Never would this city girl have though that she was country deep down inside! It sure is a learning process – and I can say for sure: re-connecting with my American side has not only made me understand were I come from and has shown me my roots, but this experience has also rooted me! An amazing journey indeed!

Hope you are enjoying your last month of Summer – I do love August!!

Have a great week loved ones!

And don’t forget -Life is a journey!

A week of love

week of love titel

This week has been filed with wedding anniversary fun and celebrations. Since starting our new jobs it has taken time to get used to the new groove and we have been exhausted every night. So it was especially good for us to take a step back and enjoy ourselves.

On our way to our anniversary date-night

Our 3 year wedding anniversary was spent in Louisvilles only German style beer garden – drinking Hefe Weizen and enjoying pretty authentic (so so delicious!!) prezel bread before heading over to Jack Fry’s for a luxurious diner. The 1930s feel with live jazz music as a backdrop was the perfect environment for a romantic evening together. It doesn’t get better than that!

On Thursday we splurged on take out sushi before heading over to Iroquois Ampitheater for a concert of John Butler Trio! I was introduced to John Butlers music about 6 years ago by my cousin Louise when I traveled through Australia and have loved it ever since. So.much.fun!

If you feel like a sunday soundtrack I recommend:

This weekend is back to bussines while we process the rest of our peaches and do our normal duties around the house – it just never gets boring around here!

Hope you guys had a great week! Enjoy your Sunday loved-ones!

And don’t forget – Life is a journey! Enjoy!

Thank you for…

…loving me with all my flaws.

Thank you for showing me that happiness can be found every day and that the tranquil flow of day to day life can bring upon peace.

Thank you for sharing your soul and making me love mine.

Here’s to endless more years with you!¬†Happy Anniversary!

Life is a journey – thankful for being able to share it with you.

Sweet Summer Beginnings

Kentucky summer is here – meaning¬†temperatures are in the 30’s C, humidity is high, nights are warm, lightening bugs filling our backyard, summer festivals the city, bourbon is drunk out by the fire pit and I enjoy the goodness of collecting my gardening labors in form of fresh salad, tomatoes, squash, kale, chard and cucumbers – I am still waiting on those carrots!

But the month of Juli has also brought great surprises and new beginning. (Yeees I know, we seam to LOVE new beginnings in the Morrison-Brandauer home!) Our reptile business is picking up and I scored the perfect part-time job. I started working as an assistant to the vice executive of a non profit organization, serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The job gives me enough freedom to continue helping Mike grow our company, and do something that makes it worth while! The second new beginning is that also Mike got a new job and will be returning to the pharmaceutical industry after being called by a headhunter! Two new jobs in one month! Pheeewww – talk about new beginnings all right!

Next to all these exiting new starts we have been enjoying our second Kentucky summer.

Summer is: barefoot gardening, chicken cuddling, drinking old fashions on the back deck, picking veggies and taking a ride out to the countryside just outside of Louisville.

How has your summer started off?

Have a great week loved ones – and don’t forget: Life is a journey!

Flashback on our 4th of July weekend

I am back to blogging! This was an unintentional break¬† – however absolutely necessary. I kind of got into a rut and didn’t at all feel like posting anymore. I have given the future of this blog some thought and will change around a couple of things gradually. I will share soon.

Mike and I had the most amazing, simple and relaxing 4th of July weekend! Our friends Tara and Joe asked us if we felt like coming along with them to her parents in Owensboro to relax and enjoy some time together. It was the most fun, easy going week-end filled with relaxation, 4th of July fun, BBQ’s and friendship. Thanks guys for being such loving friends, and thanks to Tara’s parents for being the most amazing hosts! You made us feel like home!

We enjoyed learning how to play corn hole (throwing small bags filled with corn onto a slanted plank with a hole – trying to get the bag in the hole), swam – a lot – grilled, ate, blew up some fireworks, sat around the fire pit at night. We also walked around Owensborrow and discovered the most quaint From-Farm-to-Table Shop called Nona’s for a delicious smoothie and a pit stop at Reid’s fruit orchard for apple slushies and fresh corn o our way home. How spoiled can you be!?

Thanks guys for showing us another piece of Kentucky goodness!

I must say…July – as a whole – has started off pretty amazing and I still have tones to share from June as well – so more to come very soon!

How has YOUR summer been so far!?

Happy Monday loved-ones and don’t forget:¬† Life is a journey!

Goodbye May – and Hello June!

goodbyeMay_HelloJune_titelIt has been a while – I know. I guess I needed a break. Things have been like a whirlwind – and then again all has been so slow. Starting a new life – doing the life search – living in a new country is not always easy – and sometimes life throws a lot at us at once. I have realized that following ones heart can be tiring – and I guess that is why most people don’t dare to find their true self. It is scary and can sometimes take us down a road of doubts. But re-evaluating, feeling the true meaning of ones purpose in life, while it is a challenge, it is also a gift. And I would never want to go back to a life without that search!

While my inner self has somewhat been thorn I have also experienced a great deal of adventures and beauty that have made me feel thankful for this journey we are on.

Weekend Shananigans

It has been busy. And overwhelming. But thank God for good friends that teach you how to make bread, lend a helping hand when in need, good food, homemade beer and sunny warm May days spent out on the porch!

What happened:

Mike was on his way out to the countryside Friday night and a deer ran in front of his car from out of nowhere which totally smashed our car. The deer was not doing to well either.

car wreck

Luckily, nothing happened to Mike. He just had the pleasure of getting the car towed back home to Louisville and a rather unpleasant call with the insurance company – that is not going to pay a thing! Thankful for my cousin John who was there to help, drive Mike around and even go with him to junk yards on Sunday to take measurements essential for rebuilding our car.

Weekend Shananigans

What made it all better:

Our friends all came over on Sunday to hang out, lend a helping hand, show me how to bake bread and gift me of a bunch of bakers utensils!! We laughed, listened to bluegrass music, enjoyed the sun, ate and drunk homemade beer. It was the best Sunday one could of ask for after those events! Beloved friends – you are awesome!

And may I say – we have the best friends EVER! One took off work and the other sacrificed his day off on Monday to help Mike drive to junk yards, pick up parts and help restore our car back –¬†not to its old beauty¬† but to functionality ūüėČ ! And yes – we did drive over the bent hood with the lawn mower to straighten it out! That’s just how we roll here in Kentucky!

Hope you all had a great start into your week! Keep smiling and don’t forget –¬† life is a journey even if sometimes a very bumpy one! Enjoy the ride!

Changes and new Beginings

Life is full of changes – constantly, and always. Of course as Mike and I decided to go on this journey together and moved to the US, we did know it would bring a lot of changes with it. But never could we have imagined how much it would change us. On April 27th I have officially lived in the USA for exactly a year! Since our first idea of moving to Kentucky and the moment we actually moved, things have sure changed! We have changed. I have changed. The interesting part about it is however, that one cannot foresee the kind of direction your path will lead you on. And I have sure learned a lot of things about me I would have never thought of!

I have discoved my love for a more calm and centered lifestyle. I have discovered my passion for country life and have found my talent for making things from scratch in the kitchen! As I started this journey towards myself, I would have never expected to find an urban farmer, a chicken lover, a apple butter microprocessor, a veggie gardener, a passionate homemaker within me! When I left my job and city-girl-lifestyle behind me in Vienna Austria, little did I know what I would find! I knew the life I was leading was not true to me. I knew I was searching and I knew I had not found it yet, but never ever would I have expected what I found within this year! I am grateful for the opportunity I had and still have to actually go on this journey. To pack up my old life and discover what parts of my soul would unravel in a different setting. And I love it!

To add to these changes more gradual changes, Mike and I have taken further steps to change our life! We have become business owners! I no longer work at the consignment shop I told you about, but am working from home now, helping Mike build an exotic animal import business! Yes!!! I know – who would have thought! And while the business in itself is quite unusual, those of you who know Mike are not surprised!

We opened an LLC by the end of last year, and handed in all the paper work to get started. The first 3 months were kind of researching the market, getting all import papers figured out, applying for all the permits and building a professional website and brand. As for me, since I came back from my Euro-trip in March, I am working from home, helping Mike build the business. Very new life style to get used to! Working from home has  great perks, however, I am still getting used to creating my own schedule, finding out which steps to take and how to work out a business structure for myself. It is sometimes a battle, finding myself in it, finding my own speed, work-style and organization, but I am getting there! We are getting there!

I am therefore happy to present to you True Arts Reptiles LLC!!! We officially launched our website, so make sure to go over to http://www.trueartsreptiles.com and take a look. We put a lot of effort and work into the site! Let us know what you think! Aaand…you can find us on Facebook under http://www.facebook.com/trueartsreptiles – make sure to like us there as well!

So as you can see – not only has our new life in Kentucky changed our lifestyle – it has also changed us and the way we choose to life our lives.

I sure must say: Life is a Journey! Have a great day loved-ones!

Derby chic

Hard to believe Derby Season has gone by already! Everything builds up to this grand event every year and the two weeks before Derby are a craze of charity events, balls and parties all about town. And then, in just 2 minutes, it is all over! This was my second time experiencing Derby and Mikes’ first time. Since he is not much of a crowd lover, I went to the Oaks (the race before the final – the more local go and show race at Churchill Downs) with my friend Anna from Southern Sirens. It was so much fun to say the least and I took advantage of this opportunity to take A LOT of pictures! Derby Day itself was spent at our friends house and their Derby Party. It was a great laid back event with delicious food, back porch sunning, good conversation and bourbon! Thanks Deb for hosting it!

So here goes – Derby 2014 viewed through my lens. Enjoy!

Hope you had a great start to your week loved-ones! And don’t forget, life is a journey!

Happy Derby Day!

Happy Derby_titel

Today is THE day in Kentucky – the day has come for the most famous two minutes in sports: it’s the day of the Kentucky Derby Race!

Mike and I are invited to a Derby party  and it will be our first Derby here in Kentucky together Рactually it will be our first Derby together in general! Yesterday I went to the so called Oaks with my girl Anna from Southern Sirens, and we had a ball! We meet up with our dear friend Erica and enjoyed the wagering (betting on horses), Fair food, Lillies (red yummy vodka drinks), and hat viewing!

Happy Derby 2

I will write a Derby recap post very soon, were I will share more pics of my amazing fun time! For now – just a short Hello and Happy Derby y’all!

Have a great week-end loved one!

And don’t forget life is a journey – better enjoy the ride!
