It was my grandmothers birthday – and can you believe it – she turned 89 years old! My grandmother never was your typical granny. Until this day she will be wearing bright colors, African necklaces and never be boring or conservative. She will surprise you with stories of free love in the 50s, wild artist parties in Ghana and never judge you and your life path. Needless to say, I love her! And some might say I inherited her fiery temperament.
When I decided to visit her on her birthday , I knew I wanted to surprise her – and the rest of the family with her! The only one that knew I was coming, was my brother who kindly picked me up from the train station in Munich, after my 2 jet-lagged days in Vienna. And wow was it a success! No one had even thought about the possibility of me visiting – and when we walked in the door, most guests thought I was my brothers new girlfriend – just because IT COULD NOT BE ME! Surprise!!
We celebrated grandmas birthday at home, with aunts and uncles, cousins and nieces! It was great to see everyone and I was so happy, I didn’t even feel tiered or jet-lagged until late at night!
Here’s to a successful surprise, home made cake, happy faces, long needed family reunions and springlike evening walks!
Happy Monday loved ones – and don’t forget….Life is a journey!
